Aloha Everyone,

Summer is here and legislative session has come and gone — mahalo to all who supported HIPHI and our policy priorities this legislative session. Our 2019 legislative agenda highlighted 21 legislative policies to advance public health, as submitted by HIPHI and our partners. Seven of these made it across the finish line, including two top priorities for HIPHI and the Obesity Prevention Task Force!

To see which bills made it through and which didn’t, be sure and get a copy of our 2019 Legislative Recap at our second annual summer social event this coming Thursday, June 20. We hope you can join us and celebrate the end of the legislative session, recognize a few outstanding youth advocates, and network with other public health partners, advocates, and policymakers. Register here.

I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your support at our Whole Foods Market 5% Community Giving Day on April 18th. We had a great turn out and your support helped us raise  $25,417.

In April, we welcomed our newest staff member to the HIPHI ohana, Simran Sidhu, who joins us as our Evaluation and Community Engagement Coordinator, AmeriCorps VISTA member. Simran will be helping us on special projects and evaluation for the next year.

Jessica, Trish, and Roella represent HIPHI at the National Network of Public Health Institutes 2019 National Conference.

In our continued effort to build the public health workforce in Hawai‘i, we invite you to participate in our upcoming Public Health Training Hui webinar focused on mental health titled: The Restless Mind, Finding Peace and Support in a Busy World on July 12. The featured speaker will be Mestisa C. Gass, PsyD, Program Director of Mental Health America of Hawai‘i. This training is approved for CSAC, CHES/MCHES, CPEU for RD, RDN, DTR and CNE for Nurses.

Finally, we are proud to co-host the 13th National Conference for Immunization Coalitions and Partnerships with the Hawai‘i Immunization Coalition, to be held for the first time in Hawai‘i. The conference will be held on November 13-15, 2019, at the Ala Moana Hotel. We are excited to have Dr. Nancy Messonnier, Director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, as one of the keynote speakers for this year’s conference. If you are interested in submitting an abstract (due June 30), being a sponsor or exhibitor, or registering for the conference, please visit the conference website.

We appreciate your continued support and partnership.

Mahalo Nui Loa,

Jessica
