‘Ulu Festival – Community Celebration
When: Saturday, the 19th of September, 2026
Where: Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden
What to expect: The week will kick off with an ‘Ulu Festival at the Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, featuring cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs, production workshops, keiki activities and traditional crafts; Amy Greenwell previously hosted two breadfruit festivals in 2011-2012, which drew 10,000 attendees and is broadly regarded as a pivotal series of events that helped launch today’s breadfruit industry in Hawaii.
Aha ‘Ulu – Cultural Gathering
When: Sunday, the 20th – Monday the 21st of September, 2026
Where: Kahalu‘u Ma Kai
What to expect: Aha ‘Ulu – an exclusive gathering of cultural practitioners to facilitate sharing of expertise, perspectives, and issues from an indigenous perspective.
Global Breadfruit Summit – International Conference
When: Tuesday the 22nd to Thursday the 24th of September, 2026
Where: Outrigger Kona Resort
What to expect: Global Breadfruit Summit will then be hosted by the University of Hawaii, leveraging Hawaii as a global leader in breadfruit research and innovation, to convene scholars from around the world on critical topics such as agronomy, nutrition and product innovation. During one of the conference evenings, a variety showcase pairing farmers, chefs, distillers and brewers will present culinary and beverage innovations featuring diverse local breadfruit varieties; this world-class social event will facilitate networking and relationship building, helping to drive collaboration across disciplines and geographies in years to come.
Edible Showcase – Culinary Tasting
When: Wednesday, the 23rd of September, 2026
Where: Outrigger Kona
What to expect: The Edible Showcase – Culinary Tasting brings together chefs, hoteliers, and food lovers to celebrate breadfruit and its versatility. This curated tasting experience will feature innovative and traditional breadfruit dishes while highlighting the crop’s cultural significance and potential within sustainable Pacific food systems.
