Fundamentals of Domestic Violence: Growing Up Exposed to Violence

October 23 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Free

Exposure to domestic violence can affect children’s normal development and have lifelong effects. We will look at the ways children may be affected from pre-conception to adulthood. This training will uncover social learning theory and its application to domestic violence, particularly how children can learn violence and aggression from observing it in childhood. Additionally, participants will learn the biological transmissions of trauma from parents to children. Participants will learn the distinctions between adverse and positive childhood experiences and how their impacts can affect individuals into adulthood.

Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand how social learning theory applies to domestic violence.

2. Learn the potential for the biological transmission of trauma.

3. Understand and explain the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Hawaii Public Health Institute and the Western Region Public Health Training Center (WRPHTC). The WRPHTC is jointed accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continued Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
