HHSP Communications Workshop: Framing for a Healthy Hawaiʻi

January 31 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

A virtual public health communications workshop coordinated by the Department of Health and presented by FrameWorks Institute. This two-hour workshop, entitled “Framing for a Healthy Hawaiʻi,” will provide evidence-based techniques for successfully communicating social determinants of health and health equity messages with stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. A structured presentation and interactive group work will be included in the agenda.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Effectively explain the social determinants of health, including spatial justice and place; and
  • Frame messages and conversations about nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco as matters of health equity.

Julie Sweetland, PhD 
is a sociolinguist and serves as a Senior Advisor at the FrameWorks Institute, where she leads efforts to diffuse the organization’s cutting-edge, evidence-based reframing recommendations throughout the nonprofit sector. Since joining FrameWorks in 2012, she has led the development of powerful learning experiences for nonprofit leaders and has provided strategic communications guidance for advocates, policymakers, and scientists nationwide and internationally.
