Tucked away past the Ko‘olau Mountains is a revolutionary program striving for a zero-waste Hawai‘i. The Windward Zero Waste School Hui (Hui), a partnership of Windward schools working cooperatively in the pursuit of waste reduction, soil restoration, and applied environmental education. Schools in the Hui are Ka‘ohao School, Ka‘elepulu Elementary, Kainalu Elementary, Enchanted Lake Elementary School (ELES) and Kailua Intermediate School (KIS). Join us on this visit to tour their operations and see the innovative composting technologies to reduce food waste in schools.
Event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM or Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM to witness students source compost and vermicast to restore gardens, landscaping, and lawns. There are a maximum of 10 spots open for each visit.
