Hawaiʻi Farm To School Makes Changes At Annual Meeting

Hawaiʻi Farm to School Makes Changes at Annual Meeting

On April 30 and May 1, the Hawai‘i Farm to School Hui (F2S Hui) met on O‘ahu for their Annual Governance Meeting. This yearly meeting of the group’s Mission Circle (Board) and Steering Circle (Project management) brought together 20-30 individuals representing students, teachers, farmers, government organizations, nonprofits,  universities, and community members from across the state.

The last Annual Governance Meeting was held in November 2022. At that time, the F2S Hui outlined two administrative goals for 2023 and 2024. The first goal was to review and update the F2S Hui’s Strategic Plan, which covered 2021 through 2023. The second was to reconsider the coalition’s name to review its cultural appropriateness and relevance.

Over several months, committees worked diligently to create the six goals and 29 objectives of the 2024 – 2026 Strategic Plan.

Day one of the meeting, April 30, took place at the President’s Pavilion on the Punahou School Campus. Roughly 20 members of the Mission and Steering circles reviewed the proposed plan, made some minor edits, and ultimately consented to adopt the plan. The Farm to School staff at HIPHI are still preparing the final version, but it will be posted online shortly.

Day two of the meeting, May 1, took place at St. Anthony’s Retreat Center in Kalihi Valley. Once again, roughly 20 members of the Mission and Steering circles joined together and reviewed the proposal to change the name of the Hawaiʻi Farm to School Hui. Names are essential, and the grounding of the Farm to School coalition in Hawaiʻi is critical to the group’s mission. After much debate, the group agreed that the word “Hui” would be removed, and the coalition would be known as Hawaiʻi Farm to School.

What’s next? The HIPHI Farm to School team, in cooperation with the Communications team, will be refreshing the F2S logo and updating websites, documents, and program materials to reflect the change.  It is just the beginning for our Members as well!
