Summer 2024 Environmental and Energy Justice Internship

The Environmental and Energy Justice (EEJ) program provides training and technical assistance to Hawai‘i and Pacific Island organizations to ensure that our marginalized communities are prepared to withstand the impact of climate change. Environmental justice looks at disproportionate adverse health and environmental effects on communities. It assumes equitable access to a healthy environment and the capacity for indigenous people to practice their culture and traditional way of life (EPA). The EEJ intern will work as a team member to help plan training sessions and educational projects for Hawai‘i and Pacific Island organizations and communities. The EEJ internship will begin in early June 2024. If interested, please complete HIPHI’s internship application form by March 30, 2024.

During the summer semester (early June to late August), HIPHI will mentor up to 3 interns. Interns can choose how many hours they want to dedicate to this project. Internship activities may include the following activities:

  • The intern will identify and create a database of local, national, and international organizations working toward environmental and energy justice.
  • The intern will learn to find, develop, and disseminate culturally appropriate environmental and energy justice resources for Hawai‘i and Pacific Island organizations.
  • The intern will help create content for the environmental and energy justice website.

Early Career Opportunities

AmeriCorps is a national community service program that is a great early career opportunity for those who want to gain professional experience and serve marginalized communities. HIPHI is a sponsor site for AmeriCorps VISTA. It will be a host site for Public Health AmeriCorps (through the National Network of Public Health Institutes) starting summer 2024. AmeriCorps members serve for one year on a full-time basis at a host site. Members receive living allowances (stipend) during their service, along with other benefits.
