On February 27, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Johnson & Johnson, also known as Janssen, COVID-19 vaccine. This EUA Fact Sheet for Recipients and Caregivers provides quick facts about the vaccine and is also available in the following languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Tagalog.
The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine helps to prevent COVID-19 in individuals 18 years of age and older. The vaccine does not contain SARS-CoV-2; it cannot give you COVID-19. Unlike the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine does not use mRNA but provides the same outcomes: lowering risk of severe illness, limiting death and hospitalization. You can read more on the Benefits of Getting a COVID-19 Vaccine provided by the CDC.
Since the Johnson and Johnson vaccine does NOT use mRNA like other authorized COVID-19 vaccines, it is much easier to manufacture. It can be stored at the temperature of a regular refrigerator and only requires a single dose, which will make it more accessible to the public.
