2023 TFK’s Spring Quarterly Meeting At Malama Pono

Kauaʻi Highlight: Malama Pono Health Services

Malama Pono Health Services (MPHS) first planted its roots on Kauaʻi in 1986 and for a couple of decades was known as the place that served HIV/AIDS patients. Over time, MPHS evolved to meet other community needs and expanded their services. Today, their clinic still holds testing and treatment services for sexually transmitted diseases, but their list of services now encompasses women’s wellness and reproductive health care, tobacco cessation, transgender support, parenting programs, and more. Their list of services to our Kauaʻi community continues to expand and includes a mobile health clinic.

In July, Tobacco-Free Kauaʻi (TFK) held its quarterly meeting at MPHS. TFK members toured MPHS facilities, where Clinic Manager Melisse Camelo shared services the community can seek from MPHS and how to refer or partner with MPHS. With increasing services available on Kauaʻi, many professionals may need help keeping up to date with what’s available to the community.

MPHS is a valuable TFK partner, not only for their work in tobacco control but their support of TFK’s mission and work on Kauaʻi. MPHS says it best on their website: “MPHS has answered the call, breaking down barriers to quality care, support, and education for all.”

MPHS is a tobacco cessation grant recipient from the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation and provides tobacco cessation services for individuals and groups at no cost to the client. Currently, the tobacco treatment specialist is Angelina Kays and can be reached at the office via phone: (808) 631-3256 or email:
