Key Accomplishments in Kauaʻi County

Get Fit Kauai (GFK) has made tremendous strides on Kaua‘i by promoting physical activity through policy and advocacy efforts. Major policy changes supported by GFK include a Kaua‘i county Complete Streets resolution, a Kaua‘i county ordinance to change to the subdivision code that requires sidewalks and shorter block lengths, and a statewide Safe Routes to School bill, which will allocate funding from certain traffic violations to support individual county’s Safe Routes to School efforts.

Tobacco-Free Kaua‘i (TFK) continues to work with the Kaua‘i Mayor and Kaua‘i County Council to introduce and pass tobacco control policies to improve the health and safety of Kaua‘i County such as smoke-free vehicles with occupants under 13 years of age, tobacco-free parks at Lydgate Beach Park, including Kamalani Playground, and Po‘ipū Beach Park.

All coalitions continue to work closely with government agencies and policymakers to ensure accountability and that these policies are being implemented in a timely manner.
