Promoting Health Across Kaua‘i
Small, but mighty. On Kaua‘i, we are a tight-knit community and we like to get things done. Our three coalitions have one goal in mind: making Kaua‘i one of the healthiest places to live on Earth. Get Fit Kaua‘i is a part of our statewide Healthy Eating + Active Living (HEAL) program and is widely recognized for effectively promoting physical activity through policy change, programs, and projects. Tobacco-Free Kaua‘i is part of the highly respected Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawai‘i and has been a leader on the island and in the state for advancing tobacco control policy. And the Kaua‘i School Garden Network, part of the statewide Hawai‘i Farm to School Hui, provides funding, technical and volunteer support for school gardens, school sustainability initiatives, and local food in local schools as well as other programs.

Key Accomplishments
Get Fit Kaua‘i – A HEAL Community Coalition
Get Fit Kauai promotes and facilitates Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) for the Kauai community. We help educate people about the importance of policy changes as an important foundation to support and promote HEAL. Since 2009, we have served as an important bridge-builder between Kauai community residents and our elected county and state policy makers; moving us towards a healthier community.
Kaua‘i School Garden Network (KSGN)
Mālama Kaua‘i manages the Kaua‘i School Garden Network (KSGN), which was established in 2010 and supports all schools, PreK-12, on the island of Kaua‘i. KSGN provides funding, technical and volunteer support for school gardens, school sustainability initiatives, local food in local schools and the development of wellness committees that are able to address school specific concerns around healthy food and nutrition choices. In addition, KSGN offers schools curriculum, training, networking opportunities, and a resource-filled e-newsletter.
Join One (Or All) Of Our Kaua‘i Community Coalitions
Policy change begins in communities. We have seen that many times in Hawai‘i. A policy is passed by a town or county, another island follows, and then the policy is enacted statewide. This makes local coalitions especially important and impactful. Interested in promoting policy change that advances health? Work with a small, but dedicated team of passionate advocates to reduce tobacco use (CTFH), to promote healthy eating and active living (Get Fit Kaua‘i), and/or to strengthen Hawaii’s statewide farm to school and school garden movement.
