Partnership educates new parents on importance of smoke-free vehicles and homes
The Coalition for Tobacco-Free Hawai’i (CTFH)-East Hawai‘i is thrilled to be partnering with Hilo Medical Center (HMC) Labor and Delivery Ward to promote smoke-free cars and homes in new parent’s discharge packages.
Starting April 2016, all new parents will receive smoke-free cars and homes handouts created by CTFH staff and University of Hawai‘i at Hilo senior Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) student interns.
This collaboration will educate 1,200 families annually and will increase the knowledge of Hawai‘i Counties smoke-free cars law (Ordinance No 10-33) which has been in effect since 2010.
Secondhand smoke exposure in cars and homes is an ongoing campaign in East Hawai‘i and partnerships with the largest acute hospital in Hawai‘i County will expand the awareness of the smoke-free cars law, and keep our keiki and families healthier.
