Welcome Our New Hawai‘i Community Health Worker Association Coordinator We are excited to introduce our…
2023 has been an exciting year for the Hawai‘i Public Health Training Hui (Hui)! We embarked on another year of educational, credit-approved workshops for local and national public health professionals free of charge. Training topics this year included fentanyl and other substance abuse addiction indicators, LGBT/mahū cultural humility, connections between food security and public health, and elder abuse awareness, to name a few. The top attended sessions addressed issues on power dynamics in domestic violence, strategies to serve youth exposed to domestic violence, and the environmental health impacts of the Lāhaina wildfires. The Hui offers continuing education credits for social work, substance abuse counseling, prevention specialists, registered dieticians, community health education specialists, and legal. We are working to restore nursing credits in 2024.
As we embark into 2024, the Hui is hosting more free webinars that provide our public health workforce with credited education hours on current public health trends to stay up-to-date with our evolving world. We are excited to expand our opportunities and resources by partnering with the University of Arizona’s Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health on the Western Environmental Science Technical Assistance Center for Environmental Justice or WEST EJ Center. The Center will help communities in Hawai‘i, the Pacific Islands, and the rest of Region 9 achieve environmental and energy justice by serving as a one-stop shop for hands-on technical assistance, multifaceted training, and other eligible forms of assistance, resources, and support. If you or anyone in your community is seeking expertise on climate change issues, please check out the West EJ Center’s website and contact us for support. HIPHI will be serving Hawaiʻi and the US Affiliated Pacific Islands. If you want to access these resources, please contact Makamae Namahoe at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Mahalo nui to all participants near and far who attended a webinar this year! Your continued support and participation are invaluable. We look forward to more time together in the new year! Topics, including HIV awareness, Artificial Intelligence (AI), supervisory training, and maternal health, are being finalized. If you wish to stay informed and receive updates about future opportunities, please email Makamae Namahoe at email@example.com to join the listserv.
