Spring 2026 Update from Our CEO

Aloha,
The back-to-back Kona low storms have battered the state with heavy rains and winds, resulting in massive flooding, property damage, and even loss of life. As communities deal with the aftermath of the storm, so many have already stepped up to provide aid. HANO has compiled a list of community members and organizations taking action. For those affected or helping with clean-up, this fact sheet offers guidance on staying healthy and safe after flooding. Mahalo to everyone who has already shown such courage, compassion, and generosity in this difficult time. By caring and showing aloha, we can help our communities recover and grow more resilient together.
On the policy front, several of our policy priorities are still moving forward. Since our mid-session policy update a few weeks ago, we’ve seen progress on bills to end the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and lower the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to reduce impaired driving. We’re approaching a major deadline (second lateral) this Friday, so we encourage you to view our bill tracker for current bill status information.
The 2026 Community Health Conference (June 23-25, 2026) is less than 3 months away! We’re excited to announce that our keynote speaker will be Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, founder and CEO of Your Local Epidemiologist, a public health newsletter that “translates” ever-evolving science to the public, reaching over 500 million views. Dr. Jetelina has a Master’s in Public Health and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Discounted early bird registration rates are available through April 17, 2026. Register today to secure your spot!
This quarter, we welcomed two new staff members, Kirsten and Maribel. If you’re interested in joining the HIPHI team, we’re recruiting for three coordinator positions, two on Maui and one on O‘ahu. Apply today!
As always, we appreciate your continued support and partnership.
With Aloha,

Jessica Yamauchi, MA, EMBA
