James McCallen

[he/him] James joined HIPHI in January 2025 as the Director of Community Preparedness & Resilience. He works to integrate a climate change and health lens into HIPHI’s public health initiatives while strengthening Hawai‘i’s public health systems to build community resilience against climate-related impacts and disasters. Previously, he served as the Hawai‘i Department of Health’s Climate Change & Health Coordinator and facilitated the Climate Change & Health Working Group. James was also a Peace Corps Health Volunteer in Vanuatu. He holds an MPH from Johns Hopkins with a focus on climate change and health. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, stargazing, and playing pickleball.
