Steady Summer Progress for the Hawai‘i Alcohol Policy Alliance

As summer comes to an end and we prepare for the end of the year, it is with great enthusiasm that we bring you an update on the progress of our campaign to lower the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in Hawai‘i. Over the past few months, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for a successful initiative.

One of the key pillars of our campaign has been establishing action groups to tackle different aspects of our campaign. These groups have been instrumental in amplifying our message and driving change. Let’s take a closer look at each of them:

  1. Lawmaker Outreach: Our Lawmaker Action group has been strategizing and engaging with legislators to generate support for our cause. Through thoughtful discussions and presentations, we have been able to convey the importance of lowering the BAC limit and the potential impact it can have on road safety. The response from lawmakers has been challenging, but productive. We are optimistic about the progress we have made in garnering their support.
  2. Supporter Outreach: Our Supporter Outreach group has been working diligently to build a broad coalition of individuals and organizations who share our vision of a safer Hawai‘i. By developing resources to enhance our media ecosystem, we will be ready to equip our advocates with the tools to discuss why lowering the BAC has so many benefits effectively. We are excited to connect with passionate supporters who are willing to share their stories and voice this cause.
  3. Media Advocacy: The Media Advocacy group has played a crucial role in raising awareness about the need to lower the BAC limit. By collaborating with local media outlets, we have successfully secured coverage highlighting the importance of this issue and its impact on public safety. The power of media in shaping public opinion cannot be understated, and we are grateful for the help we’ve received thus far.

In addition to these action groups, we are thrilled to announce the formation of a Steering Committee comprising key community partners and experts. The committee will provide strategic guidance and direction to our campaign, leveraging their knowledge and experience to ensure we approach the 2024 legislative session with a strong foundation. We are confident that their insights will be invaluable in shaping our advocacy efforts.

As we edge closer to the start of the 2024 legislative session, the momentum of our campaign continues to build. We are filled with excitement and determination as we work towards our goal of lowering the BAC limit in Hawai‘i, making our roads safer for all. However, this endeavor requires the support and involvement of each volunteer. We encourage you to stay engaged, spread the word, and join us in advocating for this critical change.
