Supporting and Promoting our Community Health Workers

It has been an exciting six months for our Community Health Worker (CHW) network and we look forward to continuing this progress over the summer. CHWs have been instrumental in our state’s vaccination efforts, helping to disseminate COVID-19 vaccine information, assisting with community drives, and reaching out to their community members in rural areas. We greatly appreciate their tremendous efforts to ensure our communities are healthy and safe. Vaccinations are key to mitigating COVID-19 and to resuming in-person meetings and events. CHWs and allies are currently planning the 2021 conference slated for November 2021. The conference planning committee is looking forward to creating an event that benefits CHWs and determines the next steps in launching the Hawaiʻi CHW Association. It is critical to have CHWs participate in the planning process. Please sign up here if you are interested and able to join the planning committee.

In June, HIPHI received funding from the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH), Kaiser Permanente, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Foundation to address vaccine misinformation, expand vaccine opportunities, and increase vaccine coverage with the support of CHWs. If you identify as a CHW and are interested in participating in monthly focus groups to provide feedback and disseminate culturally appropriate educational materials for a stipend, please contact Makamae Namahoe at makamae@hiphi.org
