Tobacco-Free Bag Tags: Sending Youth Back to School with a Positive Message!

Three designs available for bag tags with a healthy tobacco-free message.

This summer, over 400 students on Kaua‘i, and even Kaua‘i’s Mayor Derek Kawakami, got creative with a tobacco-free message. Each student designed a personalized bag tag featuring one of three design options: “Protect the ‘Opihi,” “Breathe Akamai,” and “808 No Vape.” The “Breathe Akamai” tag was the clear favorite,  accounting for more than half of all tags created.

Tobacco-Free Kaua‘i (TFK) featured this activity at various events throughout the summer, including the Back to School Bash at Kukui Grove on July 12, and Hale ‘Ōpio Kaua‘i, Inc.’s End of Summer Bash on August 2. The Coalition plans to continue offering this activity at additional ‘ohana events through the end of the year.  

Creating these bag tags gave youth a fun and meaningful way to express themselves while promoting a healthier, smoke-free community.
