We’re Rolling Now! How to Follow and Engage with the Safe Routes to School Advisory Committee

In summer 2023, Act 244 – Relating to Safe Routes to School, was signed into law. This law provides a mechanism for getting $20 million in funding for  Safe Routes to School plans, road projects, and programs that benefit students walking, rolling, and bicycling to school. It also requires the creation of a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Advisory Committee. We’re excited to announce that the SRTS Advisory Committee is officially rolling! This group is developing an evidence-based statewide SRTS plan to make walking, rolling, and biking to school safer for students in Hawai‘i. The committee includes members from various government agencies and community organizations. Here’s a look at their recent progress and some important upcoming dates related to this work:

Recent SRTS Advisory Committee Agendas:

  • July 30, 2024 – SRTS Advisory Committee Meeting inaugural regular meeting.
  • August 15, 2024 – SRTS Advisory Committee special meeting
  • August 27, 2024 – SRTS Advisory Committee regular meeting
