Celebrate National Public Health Week with us!

Happy National Public Health Week!

We hope this reaches you in good health! Did you know that each year during the first full week of April, the American Public Health Association (APHA) brings together communities across the United States to observe National Public Health Week (NPHW)? We use this time as a way to honor the contributions of public health workers and highlight the most important issues facing our nation’s collective health.

This year’s NPHW theme is “Public Health is Where You Are.” And where we are, both physically and mentally, and even socially, all have an impact on our health.

There is a direct connection between your personal health, the health of your community, and the health of the land you live on.

To create safer, healthier and more welcoming communities, everyone needs equal access to financial security, food security, safe housing, and whole-person health care.

So in that spirit, we want to celebrate the week by playing a wellness game with you! Each activity in this game promotes holistic wellness and can be done no matter what your level of fitness you’re at with the whole ‘ohana. Check out the instructions below:

To finish off the game, we encourage families to join our Keiki Art Showcase! Get creative with writing, drawing or painting to answer one the following questions:

  • What does health mean to you?
  • How do you stay healthy?

Submit your artwork to our Communications Coordinator, Alana Thomas, at alana@hiphi.org

  • Please keep in mind that all artwork submitted, will be showcased across our social media channels and website.
  • We encourage you to also post your art on Instagram and tag us at @hubforhealth.
  • And don’t forget to use the hashtag #NPHWArtShowcase and make sure your account is public so we can see your beautiful masterpiece.

The third way to join this week’s health conversation is through our upcoming Public Health Action webinar.

  • During our webinar, we learn about public health initiatives happening across the state, provide health resources and open discussions on many health-related topics.
  • This year’s NPHW theme “Public Health is Where You Are” reminds us that community health is improved by responding to community needs.
  • SAVE THE DATE and join us for our next COVID-19 Public Health Action Webinar: Improving Community Health During the Pandemic and Beyond.

Please invite your family and friends to join us as we celebrate NPHW with our ‘Ohana game, Keiki Art Showcase and upcoming PHA webinar!

We value every life in Hawaii, from our keiki to kūpuna, and look forward to celebrating NPHW with you. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see all the pictures submitted for the Keiki Art Showcase and of families playing the ‘ohana game!

Wishing you an abundance of health and wellness,

The HIPHI Team
