Hawai‘i Public Health Institute is home to many public health programs, projects, and initiatives. We organize our work into four portfolios, each aimed at advancing the health and wellness of the people and islands of Hawai‘i.

Our Prevention and Community Well-Being portfolio encompasses strategies, programs, and initiatives to prevent chronic and communicable diseases, promote well-being, reduce health risks, and advance health attainment for all. Our approach emphasizes proactive measures to improve overall health outcomes and enhance quality of life for individuals and communities. We prioritize community-driven policies, actions, and evidence-based strategies to support well-being, ensuring a person-centered approach that promotes fairness and accessibility.

Healthy Eating + Active Living  (HEAL)

Our HEAL team works with communities to make transformations and inspire residents to participate in a lifestyle of healthy eating and active living. HEAL works to foster connections with history, relationships, and ʻāina through policy, systems, and environmental changes that support access to healthy local foods, safe active transportation methods, and worksite wellness.

Hawai‘i Oral Health Coalition

We believe we are able to achieve far greater together than in separate silos. Through our coalition, we are able to exchange mutually beneficial resources and direct change at multiple levels through advocacy, improved access, education, workforce development and oral health surveillance. With local coalitions on Hawai‘i Island, Kaua‘i and Maui, we strive to lift up all voices in our call for a healthier Hawai‘i.
