As we transition into a new year, the role of community health workers (CHWs) continue to be of utmost importance. Their roles in the pandemic have shifted to now include education and promotion of the COVID-19 vaccine. As these changes have been implemented, CHW allies have provided trainings and resources to aid in their current work. In February, HIPHI partnered with the Hawai‘i State Department of Health (DOH) to host two vaccine focus groups. This was a great opportunity for DOH to share basic vaccine information as well as a time for the CHWs to ask any questions they might have about the vaccine.

Our next CHW focused training is in partnership with the Executive Office on Aging. We will be hosting a 4 day, lunch series learning opportunity about Dementia. The sessions are 12:00-1:00PM on April 20-23, 2021 and will provide information including signs, symptoms, and early detection of dementia, standardized screening and assessment tools, and strategies to help families. If you are interested in joining the series, please register here.

The CHW Hawai‘i Association continues to grow and we encourage those that might be interested in joining the movement to join our email list. Through this listserv, you will receive meeting information, job announcements, training opportunities, and shared resources. The CHW continue to meet monthly and we welcome you to join our next meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 18, 2021, from 10:00-11:30AM. For zoom details or to join the CHW Hawai‘i Association email list, please contact Steph Moir at
