Hawai‘i Public Health Training Hui was established in 2006 to provide workforce training and to nurture collaboration among public health professionals across the state. Members are surveyed on their continuing education and technical assistance needs and then the work begins to search out and provide tools and training to meet those needs.
In late 2018, HIPHI transitioned from the role of stakeholder in the Hawai‘i Public Health Training Hui (Hui) to facilitator and fiscal manager. Since its inception, the Hui had been spearheaded by Dr. Valerie Yontz at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. With Dr. Yontz’s retirement and with her blessing, the program transitioned to HIPHI’s family of programs and projects. The project is led by a steering committee of professionals from government, academia, healthcare, and the non-profit sector.
The Hui will be offering seven webinars in 2019 with topics ranging from Decision-Making in Dementia Care to Vaping 101. The training topics are based on the needs assessments conducted periodically by the Hui Steering Committee. The Hui will also continue to share other training opportunities that may be of interest to public health professionals.
