Maui Food Bank encourages virtual food drives to meet community needs during the pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maui Food Bank went from serving 9,000 – 10,000 people in Maui County to over 50,000 people at the height of the pandemic. This was a direct effect of the high unemployment rate in Maui County during the COVID-19 pandemic. Maui Food Bank was able to meet the needs of the community consistently, working with all of their partner agencies on pivoting distribution methods to get food out to families and community members while also being safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the reopening of Hawaiʻi has rolled out since October 2020 folks in Maui County were able to get back to work and the dependency on the Maui Food Bank has lessened. However the number of people being served by the Maui Food Bank now exceeds 20,000 people.

One way that folks can help the Food Bank and the community is by organizing and participating in a virtual food drive. Please see the flyer below explaining steps to plan, host and participate in a virtual food drive that will directly benefit families and community members in Maui County.

Please consider donating, sharing with your networks, and hosting a Virtual Food Drive today!
