Maui Nui HEAL Coalition Joins the Maui MPO 2023 Commute Challenge

Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is hosting the 2023 Commute Challenge, part of a national campaign to promote education and road safety, in August. This campaign brings awareness of the everyday travel behaviors of our community and encourages them to explore a multimodal lifestyle instead.

In an effort to promote multimodal and sustainable transportation, the Maui Nui HEAL Coalition has announced its participation in the 2023 Commute Challenge. This challenge is taking place throughout the month of August and encourages individuals and organizations across Maui Nui to look to alternative modes of transportation for their daily commutes – walking, skating, scooting, carpooling, etc. The possibilities are endless!

The primary focus of the 2023 Commute Challenge is to encourage residents and organizations to think creatively and adopt alternative transportation options such as biking, walking, carpooling, or using public transportation like the Maui Bus or Da Bee for their daily commutes. By reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles, this initiative hopes to help traffic congestion, reduce emissions, and foster community involvement and well-being. 

Individuals and teams are invited to participate in the challenge by pledging to commute using alternative transportation methods. Participants can register online, join a team, and track their progress and contribution to multimodal and sustainable commuting goals. But wait, there’s more! Participants and teams can win some awesome prizes throughout the challenge.

Through this collaborative effort with the Maui MPO, the Maui Nui HEAL Coalition aims to raise awareness about the importance of multimodal transportation choices. By highlighting the benefits of alternative modes of transportation, they hope to encourage environmental and community health.

As August approaches, the Maui Nui HEAL Coalition invites all residents, organizations, and community members to embrace the challenge and join forces in promoting multimodal transportation practices. Together, they strive to create a greener and healthier Maui Nui for generations to come.
