Tucked away past the Ko‘olau Mountains is a revolutionary program striving for a zero-waste Hawai‘i. The Windward Zero Waste School Hui is a partnership of Windward schools working cooperatively in the pursuit of waste reduction, soil restoration, and applied environmental education. Schools in the Hui are Ka‘ohao School, Ka‘elepulu Elementary, Kainalu Elementary, Enchanted Lake Elementary School (ELES), and Kailua Intermediate School (KIS). Join us during National Public Health Week to tour their operations and see the innovative composting technologies to reduce food waste in schools.

Choose between one of two days: Tuesday, April 2, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM or Wednesday, April 3, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM to witness students source compost and vermicast to restore gardens, landscaping, and lawns. There is a maximum of 10 spots open for each visit.
