The Hawai‘i Public Health Training Hui (Hui) is excited to jump into a new year, featuring some new trainers while welcoming back some old colleagues and friends. We started our 2021 trainings with, “Hawaii’s Prevention Response to the Dangerous Mix of Alcohol and COVID-19” hosted by HIPHI’s own Rick Collins, CPS, and Director of the Maui Coalition for Drug-Free Youth. The February training explored how the pandemic has impacted alcohol consumption nationally and locally and explored ways that local prevention programs and community coalitions are adapting their strategies to prevent alcohol use and associated harms during the pandemic. If you missed this training, you can view the recording on the Hui’s YouTube Channel or log into Moodle and take the course to receive a certificate of attendance and continuing education credits.

Our upcoming training for March will feature David Stupplebeen, MPH, PhD from the California Department of Public Health. His training, “Moving from Cultural Competency to Cultural Humility: A Practical Overview” will address current issues with cultural competency trainings and explain the cultural humility approach. Join us on Friday March 19, 2021 from 12:00PM-1:30PM for this webinar. To register for this training, please click here.

April’s training couldn’t come soon enough! Featuring trainer, JoYi Rhyss, the Director of the Mindful Forgiveness Center, “Breathe and Let Go: Mindful Forgiveness as a Daily Living Skill to Live Life on Purpose” will educate us on mindfulness. On Friday, April 16, 2021, from 12:00PM-1:30PM, JoYi will introduce concepts, tools, and practices that will allow attendees to implement daily mindfulness practice and have a better understanding of how to let go of unhelpful thinking.
