As we transitioned into the summer months, the Public Health Training Hui (PHTH) continued to hold and promote valuable and educational webinars.

In July, we held a training by Mestissa Gass, PsyD, Program Director of Mental Health America of Hawai‘i, titled The Restless Mind: Finding Peace and Support in a Busy World. Dr. Gass guided us through defining stress, anxiety, and trauma and reassured us on how important self-care is and how this encompasses the mind, body, spirit, heart and connections with others.

August brought us education on electronic smoking devices with the help of Dr. Forrest Batz, retired faculty from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, School of Pharmacy and current Board member of HIPHI. His Vaping 101 presentation drew in a large group of engaged and interested participants ready to learn about the harmful effects of vaping, particularly among the youth in Hawai‘i.

On September 20, from 12:00PM-1:30PM, we’ll be offering Behind the Headlines: What’s Really Happening with Opioid Use and Treatment in Hawai‘i, presented by Heather Lusk, MSW, executive director of the Hawai‘i Health and Harm Reduction Center and Christina Wang, DNP, Nurse Practitioner also with the Hawai‘i Health and Harm Reduction Center. If you are interested in joining us for this exciting webinar, please register here.
