Safer Ways to Celebrate the Holidays
At HIPHI, we have an annual holiday celebration with our whole staff. This year, we decided the safest option was to gather virtually and enjoy a time of fellowship. As we work and as we gather, we have you in mind. With holiday preparations in full swing, we want to make sure you have tools to stay healthy!

As of today, 840 COVID-19 cases were reported statewide. With the rise in COVID-19 cases and the new variant Omicron detected on O‘ahu, it is important to remain vigilant and gather safely. In Hawai‘i there are many holiday traditions we want you to enjoy so here are safer ways to celebrate the holidays:
- Get vaccinated. It is the best way to minimize COVID-19 risk and keep your family and friends safe; get a booster if you are eligible.
- Gather in smaller groups in an outdoor setting with good ventilation. Attending a holiday event? Ask the host how many people will be in attendance and recommend having it in an outdoor area, such as a park. Avoid being in poorly ventilated spaces or areas.
- Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth unless you are eating or drinking.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially before eating.
- Maintain a physical distance from others. Greet others with a shaka to minimize contact.
- Clean high touch surfaces especially after you have visitors in your home. If you are sharing a meal with others, use separate utensils.
- Get tested if you are feeling sick, even if you only have mild symptoms. Please stay home until you are feeling well.
If you plan to travel this holiday season, here are some helpful recommendations to consider before traveling. Those interested in getting tested or vaccinated before a trip can find a site below.

We learned from the Delta variant how quickly the virus can spread and how fragile our healthcare system is. Join us as we choose safer ways to gather to protect our family, friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Your actions reflect your care; thank you for making public health your kuleana.
Wishing you a joyful holiday season,
The HIPHI Team
