Spring 2024 Update from Our CEO

Jessica Yamauchi

Although we’re only three months into the year, it has been jam-packed with events and exciting work. The first quarter is usually full of activity, with state legislative session in full swing! We hosted two youth advocacy events – We Grow Hawai‘i: A Youth Food Summit in February and Take Down Tobacco Day in March – and were inspired by the hundreds of youth who showed up to make their voices heard.

We provided a mid-session update a few weeks ago, and unfortunately since then, several of our priority bills have died. However we do have some priorities still moving – you can check our bill tracker for up-to-date information.

We’re also pleased to welcome eight new employees – Kala‘i, Mikaella, Anh, Noel, Geraldine, Kulamanu, Kayla, and Natalie – this quarter. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our team, please visit for open opportunities.

Mark you calendars – National Public Health Week is April 1-7, 2024, and we have several fun activities planned to celebrate! This year’s theme is Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health. Please also save the date for our annual Summer Social on Wednesday, June 26. More details on both events coming soon!

With Aloha,

Jessica Yamauchi
