Policy is a key part of the public health toolkit, and every one of us can influence legislation to make healthier choices the easier choices. HIPHI and partners seek to empower new advocates to participate in the legislative process and create change in their communities through our annual Policy and Advocacy training on O‘ahu.
This year, we went one step further to extend this program statewide, conducting trainings on the Big Island, Maui and Kauaʻi in October and November. Over 50 impassioned advocates learned how to create an advocacy plan, tell their stories to advance their goals, and navigate the legislative process. Some trainings also featured a lawmaker panel, where lawmakers shared with attendees about the impacts of community advocacy.
If you missed out, there will be one more Policy and Advocacy training on Oʻahu on Saturday January 11, 2020, just in time for legislative session! HIPHI is partnering with Blue Zones Project, Common Cause, Hawai‘i Alliance for Nonprofit Organizations, Hawai‘i Appleseed for Law and Economic Justice, and Hawai‘i Children’s Action Network to host the training from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM at ILWU Hale (451 Atkinson Drive, Honolulu, HI 96814).
