“Out of the Darkness” Community Walks
World Suicide Awareness and Prevention Day is on September 10. On September 10, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Hawai‘i Chapter will be hosting “Out of the Darkness” Community Walks in Honolulu and Hilo. The events will unite communities and provide an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and our ‘ohanas.

Hawai‘i Dept. of Ag. Accepting Applications for Micro-Grants Until Sept. 19
The Hawai‘i Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the 2nd year of the Micro-Grants for Food Security Program (MGFSP). The program provides support for small-scale gardening, herding and livestock operations to help produce food in areas that are food insecure. Eligibility requirements include:
- Must be a Hawai‘i resident, at least 18 years old and head of the household.
- The household has not received a previous MGFSP grant.
The deadline to apply is noon on September 19, 2022; the maximum award per household is $5,000. The online application form and program information are available at hdoa.hawaii.gov/add/md.

- The Oʻahu Good Food Show for ono food samples made from locally grown fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
- This free event showcases local small businesses and entrepreneurs using Hawaiʻi crops to create delicious new food products.
- There’s still a few spots available for vendors who want to supply schools and hospitals. Interested vendors can contact Susan Mercado at susan@hiphi.org.
- It will be Monday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center. Spaces are limited so register now.
