Free Group Bike Ride for Advocacy with Rep. Ilagan

November 2, 2024 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free

Join Rep. Ilagan for a FREE Group Bike Ride to advocate for a safer bike route along Rt. 130 from Keaʻau to Pāhoa on Saturday, November 2nd starting at 8 am.

Safe Bike and Pedestrian routes are a right of the people who live and work in Hawaiʻi. Rt. 130 is used by many cyclists and pedestrians for recreation and commuting to/from work.

However, the lack of public investment in road design, signs, and safety education causes problems like fast speeds, traffic congestion, and poor road maintenance. These issues make the routes not as safe as they could be.

By participating you’ll be joining Rep. Ilagan in his efforts to advocate for safe and accessible bike routes by demonstrating that Rt. 130 is regularly used for cycling and should be made safer and more accessible for everyone.

What types of things are we advocating for?
* Protected bike lanes (not just rumble strips) Repainted bike lane lines
* Increased visibility at intersections and roundabouts Increased and consistent Bike Route
* Signage Protected rest areas
* Regularly scheduled landscaping
* Regular road maintenance to clear debris
* Safe biking education for motorists and cyclists
* Include Protected bike lanes and pedestrian paths in ALL road improvement projects

Ride Details:
The group will ride round trip from Herbert Shipman Park to the Billy Kenoi District Park (approx. 22 miles round trip). Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Participants must be Adults 18+, sign a liability waiver and photo release, and supply bike and safety gear.

We ask that everyone wear brightly colored and/or reflective clothing.

To RSVP or ask questions contact Patti at 484-678-7688 or patti@hiphi.org.
